#The Dubai Heritage House|1496# was in the early 20th century the home of a wealthy Dubai merchant. Now open to tourists, it is a beautiful architectural achievement in the heart of Dubai's historic district, which gives a glimpse of what life was like in a wealthy UAE house 100 years ago.

History of the House of Heritage

The house was built in 1890 by a local notable, and was a relatively modest structure. Redeemed in 1910 by Dubai's largest pearl merchant Sheikh Ahmed bin Dalmouk, it was considerably enlarged.

The property of the house changed several times until its last owner, Ibrahim Al Said Abdullah who gave him the artistic refinement that can be observed today.

Then the heritage house became the property of the city of Dubai which began its restoration in the 90s. Today the site is managed by the Dubai Tourism Department, and open to visitors since the year 2000.

A remarkable architecture

The main building has two main levels. On the ground floor, there are Majlis: a room for men, and one for women overlooking a veranda. On the floor, are rooms rather intended for the guests and friends of passage.

Around the inner courtyard, are arranged living rooms including a large kitchen and parts for storing food.

The rooms of the house seem comfortable and are more representative of the life of the bourgeoisie of Dubai at the beginning of the 20th century, than inhabitants of Dubai or the country, who lived in more precarious conditions.

Schedules and practical information for the visit

Entry to the house of the inheritance is free. The site is open every day from 8am to 7.30pm, except Friday (opening at 2.30pm).

Hotels nearby

If the neighborhood is nice to walk in the souks, it may be necessary to move away to find establishments to the correct standard. With a little bit of walking, we particularly recommend the Sheraton Dubai Creek Hotel & Towers which has a lovely view of Dubai Creek at sunset.

The Heritage House is located on Al Ahmadiya Street. From the main abras station, take the street opposite. Al Ahmadiya Street is the first left after passing the beginning of the gold souk.

It is not advisable to drive around the area because there are few places to park and many pedestrian streets.
