Visit Dubai Gold Souk

Like any commercial area the entrance is free and the strongest attendance occurs in the evening, with few shops open on Fridays before 16h. There are other places in Dubai that may also be called Gold Souk (as in Dubai Mall), but the one we are talking about is the original souk.

The shops display on digital panels the price of gold for purchase and sale. As a general rule, the jewels are weighed and the seller types the price on a calculator. Then begin your negotiation. If you are not comfortable communicating in English, do not hesitate to use the calculator to propose your price. At the center of the main street, Dubai Municipality has installed billboards to inform tourists of the current gold price.

In the street, you will encounter juice machines, and many street vendors selling cold drinks. There are also touts who offer to take you to remote shops to sell you watches, glasses and bags of prestigious brand: beware, these are counterfeits and their acquisition, possession and transport is illegal in the United Arab Emirates, and in your home country.

If we exclude all the awful hotels in the area, we still have some good 4-star hotels including two Hyatt hotels (Baniyas Square and Regency Dubai Heritage Area) and the Sheraton Dubai Creek Hotel & Towers. Also noteworthy is the Riviera Hotel and the Deira Creek Radisson Blu Hotel Dubai with faded decor.

The Dubai Gold Souk is located in the historical part, north of Dubai Creek. Due to the narrow and mostly pedestrian streets, access by car or taxi is not easy (the nearest car park is in the North near the bus terminal, between Baniyas Road and Al Khor Street). Coming from the South, you must first cross the channel (Dubai Creek) taking an Abra (1 dhr crossing). By metro stop at Al Ras station. In any case you will have to walk a few hundred meters before reaching the souk of gold.
