Fort Qasr Al Muwaiji (Al Ain)

The fort and its mosque have been restored thanks to the work of historians, relying in particular on the first photos taken in the country. Have benn added around the fort a palm grove with a modern irrigation system inspired by ancient alfaj, and a beautiful mirror of water. Inside the courtyard, a glass building housing an exhibition.

After having taken a few steps in the small reconstructed oasis, you will reach the entrance symbolized by a fountain which feeds a water mirror further. On the left, a restored mosque. On the right is the framed entrance of two towers. Inside the inner courtyard, a modern glass structure: enter and introduce yourself at the reception, we will give you his documents for the visit.

The modern structure houses a permanent exhibition. In the first room, the most interesting part is on the multimedia frieze, searchable in English and Arabic. The second room with its glass floor allows to see an old well offers other interactive content.

Then, after a long corridor you enter the residential tower with scenes of daily life restored. A steep staircase leads to several floors, and ends on a terrace. On the latter, there is another door to other rooms.

After having admired the point of view, go back down to the inner courtyard.

Free entry. The site is accessible to disabled people (except the tower) and has public toilets.

The opening hours of Al Ain Fort Qasr al Muwaiji are as follows: closed on Mondays, open from 9am to 7pm from Tuesday to Thursday, from 3pm to 7pm on Fridays, and from 9am to 5pm on Saturdays. On Sundays, it's not very clear, but the site is supposed to be open.

The site is easily accessible from the Abu Dhabi highway: enter Al Ain always going straight (follow the main route). Count three roundabouts and the fort will be on your left (make a full half turn at the next roundabout).
