Once a year in November (this year is November 26, 2017), the Abu Dhabi Formula 1 circuit hosts the city's major event. Its official name is the Formula 1 Etihad Airways Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. The occasion of a festive weekend where the international jet set is found in palaces and luxury yachts moored in the circuit marina. Large concerts accessible to the greatest number are organized throughout the city to mark the event.

History of the F1 circuit

Opened in October 2009, just in time to host the first Grand Prix of Abu Dhabi, it took little more than two years to achieve the architectural ensemble designed by Hermann Tilke. The Formula 1 circuit is one of the emirate's initiatives to place Abu Dhabi on the map of the world. And we can say today after a decade that the goal is achieved. The Abu Dhabi brand has been touring the world, thanks to television broadcasts reaching hundreds of millions of viewers, who hopefully will want to come to Abu Dhabi to spend their holidays, or fly on the lines of the airline Etihad Airways, big sponsor of the event. Abu Dhabi is the second largest city in the Gulf after Bahrain to have a Formula 1 Grand Prix.

The circuit is built on an artificial island and 25 million hours of work were needed by the 47,000 workers to build the Abu Dhabi circuit in record time. It's almost as much as the number of spectators it can hold (50,000). It includes two circuits in one: the largest is 5.5 kilometers, and the smallest 4.7 kilometers. Inside the circuit, a marina for luxury yachts, and in the middle of the circuit, spanning the runway, the five-star Yas Viceroy, which changes colors during the night.
